Fun & Games in Adult Education

Play, Laugh… get comfortable

There’s something magical about turning learning into a game. Games feel childlike, and when we step into that space, we set aside the pressure of “I should already know this.” As children, learning is natural because curiosity outweighs fear — every stumble is part of the fun. A simple, playful activity can trigger that same mindset in adults: it makes struggling to learn feel safe, even enjoyable, because the struggle is wrapped in play. Since learning is struggle — it’s stretching beyond what we know into something new, or trying to coordinate understanding with doing. By disguising challenge inside a game, we create an environment where mistakes are not failures but moves in the play. In that moment, we become more like children again — open, curious, ready to learn.
